TOWN AND COUNTRY — As the St. Louis region neared the peak of a dangerous heat wave this week, an air conditioning system at one of the region's major hospitals failed.
Tuesday evening, an air conditioning chiller at BJC HealthCare Missouri Baptist Medical Center stopped working, the health system said.
The unit helped cool parts of the hospital, at 3015 North Ballas Road in Town and Country, but not all.
The hospital has three main chillers supporting the facility.
Throughout the day, hospital staff have been moving patients to different areas of the hospital, and transferring some to another BJC facility 4 miles north to Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital.
A new chiller unit will be installed Wednesday evening, BJC said.
