Morris Brown College in Atlanta is requiring students and employees to wear face masks on campus for the next two weeks after other colleges in the area reported positive COVID-19 cases, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The college, a private, historically Black institution that regained its accreditation in 2022 after being unaccredited for 20 years, announced the mandate on Sunday, a week after the semester started. No cases have been detected at Morris Brown yet; the precautions, which also include social distancing and a ban on large gatherings for the next two weeks, were made as “precautionary measures,” Morris Brown president Kevin James told the Journal-Constitution in an email.
Few colleges nationwide still have any COVID-19 prevention measures in place. According to the AJC, no other Atlanta colleges are implementing safety measures at the start of the fall semester.
